Rights Respecting School Council @ CRC
We are proud to be a ‘Rights Respecting School’ and achieved our RRSA ‘Level One’ in 2015.
The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos. A rights-respecting school not only teaches about children’s rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships: between teachers / adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils.
Our Mascot
Here is Mr I. Deer! He is our RRS mascot and was designed by a former pupil, Nia Francis-Davies, who won a competition to design a RRS mascot for Cwmrhydyceirw Primary. Mr I. Deer plays a big part in our school and reminds us of our rights on a daily basis.
Our RRS School Council
We are the ‘Rights Respecting School Council’. We meet on a weekly basis to ensure that children’s rights are respected in our school. We are also the voice of the school and work closely with staff and pupils to make our school a better place! Each week, we choose 1 child in our school who has been seen respecting the rights of others to receive our Mr I. Deer award and this is given out in our whole school ‘Seren yr Wythnos’ assembly each Friday.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a list of rights that all children and young people, everywhere in the world have. Children and young people aged 18 and under, have the right to be safe, to play, to have an education, to be healthy and be happy.
Wales was the first country in the UK to establish a Children’s Commissioner. The Children’s Commissioner for Wales has a role to raise awareness of children’s rights and promote the well-being of children.
