2.5.25 – Time to Talk Sessions

Dear Parents/Carers,

In order to support parents and carers of children and young people who are presenting with difficulties including the development of their social communication and interaction skills, the Local Authority’s Additional Learning Needs Inclusion Team are holding ‘Time to Talk’ sessions across the county. See attached information for times, dates and venues.

These sessions will provide an opportunity for parents/carers to meet with representatives from the Additional Learning Needs Inclusion Team, with a view to building parent partnership, and to enable discussion of any social communication and interaction issues they may be experiencing.

We would welcome all parents/carers who would like to access support. By working together with parents/carers, we will be able to think about how best to support the family. It is important to be aware that the child or young person would not have to have a diagnosis of ASD/ADHD or be on the Neurodevelopmental Referral pathway in order for parents/carers to attend.

Best wishes,

Mr Crofts

Register for the following event: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nas-swansea-period-talk-tickets-1332385814839?aff=oddtdtcreator

Getting your period maybe a sensitive topic for parents, children and young people to deal with. However, introducing the topic of periods to autistic individuals or individuals with Autism may be unsettling, creating concerns, worries and insecurities.

Set in a safe space, the NAS Swansea Branch invite parents and professionals to our talk on periods, which will be delivered by a registered midwife.

There has been time set aside for parents and professionals to ask questions for clarity and further understanding remembering every question is important, before leaving with your complimentary period packs which will consist of:

    • Sanitary towels
    • Period knickers

*Please note – if you have been to a previous period talk then we cannot issue any further period packs

We would like to thank Welsh Government/Swansea Council and their Period Dignity in Communities Grant 2024-25, to provide relief from and prevent period poverty. This Grant enabled us to purchase these items to distribute during this talk.

Many thanks,

Team NAS Swansea

7.11.24 SURVEY Evaluation of the Autism Code of Practice

Introduction
You are being invited to take part in an evaluation of the Autism Code of Practice. Before you decide whether to take part or not, please read the following information and discuss it with others if you wish.

What is the purpose of this Evaluation?
The aim of this project is to evaluate the Code of Practice on the Delivery of Autism Services in Wales to review the extent to which the duties in the Code are being met and to develop recommendations for improvements in meeting the duties of the Code.

Who is funding and undertaking the evaluation?
This evaluation is being undertaken by People and Work, a voluntary sector organisation based in Cardiff, and is being funded by the Welsh Government. The principal researcher is Dr Duncan Holtom, Head of Research at People and Work.

Do I have to take part?
No. it’s your choice and it will not cause you any harm should you choose not to take part or if you choose not to answer all the questions.

Will my contribution to this study be kept confidential?
Yes. All information which you provide will be kept anonymous (subject to legal requirements, such as requirement to share information to safeguard and protect vulnerable children and adults). Reports will not seek to identify you. Due to this once answers have been submitted it may not be withdrawn. You will be reminded of this before starting this survey. People and Work will hold personal data securely in-line with the data protection act.

What will happen to the results of the evaluation?
A report will be submitted to the Welsh Government. It is likely that this report will be published on the Welsh Government website.

Are there are any risks if I take part?
No specific risks associated with participation in the study have been identified.

The language used in this survey
This survey will use the terms ‘autistic person’ and ‘autistic child’. This is in-line with the Welsh Government’s Code of practice on the delivery of Autism services:

“This Code will use the term ‘autistic people’ rather than ‘people with autism’, this is to reflect the language preferences expressed by autistic people who have contributed to the development of this Code. The term ‘people’ refers to children, young people and adults. The Code recognises all individuals, irrespective of age.” (Page 8)

How can I find out more information?
A full privacy notice can be found on the people and work website: https://peopleandwork.org.uk/en/privacy-noticed-code-of-practice/

If you would like more information about the evaluation, please contact: Duncan Holtom, Email: Duncan.Holtom@peopleandwork.org.uk; Tel: 07970-187-962
